So what IS your preferred option for the future of the South Burnett Private Hospital?
southburnett.com.au published a survey on our front page on Tuesday evening and also placed a link on our Facebook page.
The results were collected and analysed automatically by SurveyMonkey.
The question we asked was: “What is your preferred option for the future of the South Burnett Private Hospital?”
The options we provided as answers were:
1. Council employs a skilled manager to run a full private hospital – 28.26 per cent of votes
2. Council invites a private business to run a day surgery – 17.39 per cent
3. Council employs a skilled manager to run a day surgery – 5.43 per cent
4. Council puts the hospital property on the market to sell – 42.39 per cent
We also provided the opportunity for people to supply their own ideas with an “Other” option.
Only six people chose to do this and their answers were:
1. NOTHING TO DO WITH COUNCIL RUNNING….Sell…I do not wish my rate money to be used for private health that I will have no access to…
2. Not possible to select a valid option until information on ROI is available
3. Accept the offer put forward by Rural Medical Centres Ltd
4. Sell it to an aged care provider
5. Close it and put money into the public one
6. Not sure
We also received a handful of comments on Facebook and on our main website:
If it is council run/managed, I presume that’s at the expense of tax payers?
Close it and spend money fixing the public hospital!
We need to reopen it and get good managers in. It is urgently needed to take the load off the general hospital.
Turn it into a day surgery
My husband and I moved to Kingaroy just over three years ago. One of the main reasons for moving was there was a suitable private hospital where we could have minor surgery when required and be able to see our specialists on a regular basis. Now we are in limbo and looking at having to change all our specialists to those in Toowoomba and Brisbane. This will entail travel and accommodation costs which we as pensioners cannot afford on top of private health funds. I am very unhappy about the prospect that the hospital could be gone.
Specialist medical practitioners have the option of make arrangements with local medical clinics and doctors surgeries for consultations with private patients.

Analyzing the survey figures reveals that only approximately 100 people offered a view. One could hardly say this is indicative of the total shire population’s views… just an interesting exercise.
