The reigning “king” of the Kings Royal, Gavin Fletcher, in action at the Kingaroy Speedway in December … can he defend his crown this weekend?

January 22, 2016

The huge Kings Royal weekend – the crowning event of the South Burnett Speedway Club’s racing calendar – has launched for its fourth big year at Kingaroy.

The Kings Royal, sponsored this year by Davison Homes, is the biggest and richest Modified Sedans speedway event held in Australia with more than $40,000 in cash prizes up for grabs.

It always attracts a huge line-up of the country’s best drivers.

Drivers and their guests – more than 350 people – gathered at Kingaroy Town Hall on Friday evening for a calcutta dinner and prize draw after a Friday afternoon practice session and time trials.

Two days of serious Kings Royal racing will get underway on Saturday with a parade of entrants at 4:45pm followed by racing from 5:00pm.

As well as the Modified Sedans Kings Royal IV, the weekend at the Kingaroy Speedway will also feature racing by 4 Cylinders and Juniors (on Saturday) and Production Sedans (on Sunday).

Racing on Sunday will also start at 5:00pm.

Admission prices (per night) are adults $25, children (12 and under) free, student (with ID) $15, aged / disability pension $15,  family (two adults and up to three students) $65. No two-night passes are available.

Footnote: Queensland driver Wayne Gilroy posted the quickest time in Friday’s time trials around the Kingaroy track, a blistering 17.804 seconds.
