LNP candidate for Maranoa David Littleproud has called on the Federal Government to include Zonal Taxation in this year’s proposed tax reform discussions.

“Treasurer Scott Morrison has indicated that a national conversation on tax reform will take place in coming months but has emphasised that any tax reform needs to build efficiency and productivity into the economy,” Mr Littleproud said.

“While it is important to have a national conversation about tax and government expenditure, these discussions are also an opportunity to implement tax reform that will help regional Australia grow.”

Zonal taxation targets regional areas, reducing individual tax by increasing the tax-free threshold.

Mr Littleproud said he believes Zonal Taxation has the potential to give regional communities “a real shot in the arm”, and said if it were introduced it would reduce tax for every working person in Maranoa.

It would also encourage growth by encouraging FIFO workers to move their families permanently to Maranoa, and more professionals, such as doctors and teachers, to move to regional Australia.

“I believe Zonal Taxation would encourage young people and families to relocate to Maranoa, as well as support existing families to stay,” Mr Littleproud said.

“By giving an incentive to live in regional areas, our communities will be enriched and our future prosperity secured.”
