Kingaroy RSL Services faced down Murgon Crusaders in the final of the A Grade one-day competition played at Murgon on Saturday.

Murgon won the toss and batted first.

Opener Jeff Rose (31) got the home team off to a good start, and held down his end for 95 balls while the wickets fell around him.

Kingaroy bowler Tony Dugdell made the early breakthrough, bowling opener Jason Webber for 24 and then number three Lehman Brunjes for a duck.

The rest of the Kingaroy bowlers then ripped through Murgon’s middle order, with the Crusaders all out for 91 in the 35th over.

Best of the Kingaroy bowlers were Nathan Bain who took 3/11 off six overs and Wayne Kelly (3/17 off nine overs).

Dugdell finished with 2/12 off nine overs, including four maidens.

They were chasing a low target but Kingaroy looked shaky at the start of their innings, with the scoreboard reading 3/11 at one stage after three wickets fell to Jamian Currin’s bowling for just two runs.

Things were looking dire when Mark Schmidt walked to the crease, but he quickly turned the game around hitting 56 runs off 31 balls before being caught by Jason Webber off a Tom Patton ball.

Kingaroy opener Wayne Kelly toughed it out, batting through the innings and finishing 17 not out to be the second top scorer for Services.

Tony Dugdell (11 not out) added the necessary runs at the end to take Kingaroy to 4/94 in the 22nd over.

Jamian Currin (3/14 off seven overs) was the best of the Crusaders’ bowlers while Tom Patton took 1/33 off four overs.

Kingaroy RSL Services won by six wickets.
