“Closed for renovations” … the bittersweet post by the Greensill family on the Kandanga Hotel’s Facebook page today (Photo: Facebook)

December 12, 2015

A fire in the early hours of Saturday morning has destroyed the historic Kandanga Hotel.

The occupants of the building escaped unharmed.

Firefighters could not save the 101-year-old wooden pub but prevented the flames from reaching nearby properties.

Owners Doug and Carolyn Greensill and their son John took over the business in May this year.

They formerly ran the Grand Hotel in Wooroolin.

The family escaped the blaze, which started about 5:00am, after being alerted by neighbours.
