A special rugby league talent identification camp held in Kingaroy at the weekend attracted keen young footballers from all over southern and central Queensland.

The teenagers were trying out for places in the Central United Crows squads for the Mal Meninga Cup (U18s) and Cyril Connell Cup (U16s).

Two other camps were also be held in the Division catchment area at Roma and Bundaberg.

South Burnett Rugby League secretary Lisa Weir said she was happy with the roll-up in Kingaroy with 27 players trying out for the U16s and 22 for the U18s.

She said the final squads would be announced this week.

The selected players would then go into camp at the Sunshine Coast in January.

They would play trial matches against North Devils at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy in February.

The Cyril Connell and Mal Meninga cups are designed to provide a development pathway for young rugby league players.
