A 28-year-old Kingaroy man will be charged after a bizarre double crash at the SupaIGA corner in Kingaroy on Sunday afternoon.
Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said the incident began with a minor nose-to-tail crash at the Avoca Street lights.
Both drivers involved then drove across the Kingaroy Street intersection and parked in the angled bays past the IGA entrance to exchange details.
Snr Sgt Frank said the 28-year-old man then got back into his Ford Falcon – leaving the door open – and reversed right across Avoca Street, colliding with another car.
This collision ripped the open door off the Falcon.
The Falcon then crossed the traffic island in the middle of Avoca Street mounted the footpath and hit SupaIGA’s side wall.
The vehicle then ricocheted off the wall into the Kingaroy Street intersection where it came to a halt.
“It was sheer luck that no one was seriously hurt or killed,” Snr Sgt Frank said.
Snr Sgt Frank said the driver’s behaviour was very erratic. He was taken to Kingaroy Hospital for assessment and for a blood sample to be taken.
Police will be alleging he was affected with an intoxicating substance but are awaiting the results of the blood tests.
The driver has been issued with a notice to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on January 18 to face a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
His driver’s licence was immediately suspended.
