Proston’s annual Bottle Tree Carnival has been one of the region’s big bowls tournaments for many years.

But with the decline of membership in country centres, Proston Bowls Club have had difficulty in keeping a stiff upper lip.

The club conducted this year’s Bottle Tree Carnival last Sunday.

Ten teams from around the Burnett and visiting players from Dalby North played three games of fourteen ends in very hot conditions.

The winning team was Alwyn Litzow, David Cecil, Linda Cecil and Tim White with a score of three wins plus 49.

Runners-up were Terry Kilford, Juliana McGahan, John McGahan and Del Lane with a score of three wins plus 19.

There was a third prize, too, and it went to Bevin Barsby, Neil Johnston, Noel Young and George Wolski.

At the trophy presentation, Proston President Noel Young spoke highly of the club’s effort.

Their membership has dropped to just six, he said.

Kilcoy News

Kilcoy is a great team for visiting neighbours and other clubs – and what better time to do it than Christmas?

Last Friday Trudi Pratt, Nelly Herbert, Pauline Lawson and Liz Frawley attended Aspley’s Christmas Cheer Day.

They had a very enjoyable game with President Pat and her team, and Liz was lucky to be drawn from the hat as a winner.

Then on Monday, a team of ladies skipped by Jenny Edwards went to Caboolture Lakes President’s at Home where they won their game against Woodford.

Last Saturday was Chaplaincy Charity Day and it was a good day regardless of the very hot weather, raising over $600 for the local Chaplaincy team.

On Tuesday, Jenny Edwards defeated Kelly Charters in the last Star of the Green for 2015.

Jackpot day on Tuesday saw some great competition, too.

Winners of the day were Noel Lanes, Kathy Hill and Liz Frawley who defeated Trudi Pratt, Fay Vicary, Adam Kelly and John Worrall 14-10.

In the other game played, Jenny Edwards, Kelly Charters, Pauline Lawson and Elayne Moat defeated Marg Worrall, Brett Kelly, Nelly Herbert and Col Ferguson 13-8.

The jackpot did not go off and will be $39 next week.
