The 2016 Boondooma Yellowbelly could turn out to be the best yet in the popular fishing competition’s 28 year history.
Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition spokesman Terry Allwood said today that with the lake fishing extremely well, next year’s event could set new records in both the long-standing gilled and gutted section, as well as the newer catch and release component.
The annual competition will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 13 and 14, with a pre-competition briefing on Friday night.
Cash and other prizes will be presented at the end of each of the competition’s three sessions, and overall winners will be announced at the conclusion of the event.
Lucky draws will also be held at the end of each fishing session and at the Friday night briefing.
All presentations and lucky draws will be conducted at the Fish Stocking Association’s clubhouse, which overlooks Lake Boondooma.
Entry fees for the 2016 competition will be $20 for adults, and $5 for juniors aged 16 years and under, the same as last year.
Food and drinks stalls will be provided by local community groups over the weekend, and Lake Boondooma’s camping facilities will be available for campers.
Information about Lakre Boondooma’s accommodation options and current camping fees can be found on the South Burnett Regional Council’s website or by ringing the Lake Boondooma kiosk on (07) 4168-9694.
Additional information on the local area can be found on the Proston Online website.
All profits from the event are used to help the Fish Stocking Association stock the dam.
To date, Association members have put approximately 4.5 million fingerlings into Lake Boondooma.
