The onset of Alzheimer’s Disease in a family member can be a very upsetting experience.

The Queensland Police Services Missing Person Unit has partnered up with Alzheimer’s Australia to set up the “Safely Home” initiative.

It is a simple remedy to the problem of patients who wander away from home.

They can be very confused as to where they are, and although they are often looking to return home, it may be home as it was 40 years ago that they are looking for.

“Safely Home” involves a special bracelet worn by the Alzheimer’s sufferer.

The Policelink phone number 13-14-44 is engraved on it along with a unique ID number that when quoted to the Policelink operator will identify who the wearer is and where home is.

When a wanderer is “rescued” they can be taken back home without fuss.

The bracelets can be obtained from the Alzheimer’s Australia’s website
