Nanango’s Ladies Rose Bowl Carnival was held on Tuesday, and there was quite a roll-up.

Conditions of play were two games of Fours – the first game with 21 ends, the second with 18 ends, and scoring wins plus score.

Some very close matches were seen.

Last weekend saw the Kingaroy Bowls Club Men’s Triples Championships played over the two days.

All games were played in ideal conditions, though Sunday was a bit windy

1st Round Results (Saturday)

  • Geoff Clutterbuck, Alan Irwin and Col Kratzmann def. Wayne Thatcher, Errol Dionysius and Danny Holligan 22-12
  • Dave Barwick, Malcolm MacLeod and Glen Turner def. John Lacey, Bob Bougoure and Ray Maclaren 25-12

2nd Round Results (Sunday morning)

  • Alex Callender, John Coppard and Kevin Raffin def. Geoff Clutterbuck. Alan Irwin and Col Kratzmann 27-20
  • Peter Taylor, Peter Neilsen and Bruce Johnston def. Dave Barwick, Malcolm MacLeod and Glen Turner 23-19

In the Final on Sunday afternoon, Alex Callender, John Coppard and Kevin Raffin defeated Peter Taylor, Peter Neilsen and Bruce Johnston 24-13 to take out the contest.

Meanwhile, in a 21 end mixed four-a-side social game that was played on Sunday afternoon the scoring was close with only 2 points difference after 11 ends, and only one point separating the two teams at the end.

Brigitte Kung, Gladys Slatter, Bob Bougoure and Greg Schultz defeated Mark Luck, Alan Irwin, Beryl Woods and Ray Maclaren 19-18

Twenty-four bowlers took part in Thursday’s Triples Trophy Day.

Thunderstorms threatened to interrupt play all day, but it was’t until the last ends that the skies opened up.

Scoring was five points for a win and one point for each end won.

Now that Spring has arrived, the club is also conducting a drive for new social bowls players on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. So if you fancy a fun mid-week game in good company, get along!

Yarraman News

Spring certainly is in the air, and it brought some action at Yarraman last week.

For starters, Night Bowls is back on the timetable.

Honours at last Thursday’s inaugural outing went to John Moore and Margaret Willoughby, who downed Brian Dugdell and Arthur Smith 28-10.

Runners-Up were George Wolski and Jenny Moore, who won convincingly over Neil Johnston and Eunice Smith 26-14.

There was also a bit of a tussle in the Scroungers clash last Friday.

Kev Profke scored a close one on the main rink, racking upp 46 points to narrowly take the trophy from Lorri Holmes on 44.

The “Come And Try Day” on the weekend saw some new faces on the green.

The match was two games of 12 ends, with winners drawn from the cards.

Kev Profke’s team of Kev, Keith Carroll and Ruth Jennings took out the trophy.

Pub Day is always a popular event on the Kilcoy calendar, and the most recent one was no exception:

  • First Round Runners Up: Simmo, Karen, Graeme and Terry from Dayboro

Last Saturday was a big Charity Day – the annual Kilcoy Hospital Auxiliary Kay Avery Memorial Day – and forty players were on the green.

The great weather and excellent company made sure everyone had a wonderful day while raising funds for the auxiliary.

Another big day on the Kilcoy calendar was Ladies Birthday and President At Home Day last Tuesday, sponsored by Duffys Mitre 10.

Sixteen teams attended from throughout the district with winners for the day being drawn out of the hat.

Boith the winner and runner-up teams came from Solander Lake, while the spiders were won by Mavis Partridge and Liz Frawley.
