The Yarraman Ladies Club have finalised their championship calendar, and Honour Board winners were posted on the club’s notice board at the last meeting. Past President Helene Johnson almost scooped the pool.

She was named in three of the four major titles: the Fours, the Triples and the Pairs (the A grade Singles title managed to elude her).

Title winners were:

  • Ladies Fours: Helene Johnson, Bev Profke, Di Currell and Robyn Diercke
  • Ladies Triples: Helene Johnson, Bev Profke and Di Currell
  • Ladies Pairs: Helene Johnson and Daphne Stewart
  • A Grade Singles: Robyn Diercke
  • B Grade Singles: Di Currell

Margaret Willoughby topped the leader board on her rink at the Jackpot Scroungers on Friday afternoon, winning easily with +14 points.

Next best was a tie, with husband and wife team Arthur and Eunice Smith both scoring -13.

The Jackpot was not won.

Kingaroy News:

Kingaroy has been a hive of activity this past week or so.

Ladies Patron Bess Thorp was the guest of honour at her annual Ladies Patroness Day.

Ninety-five year old Bess is a regular player on the greens.

Triples was the name of the game and 29 players turned out to help her celebrate on a typical Spring day.

The overall winners were determined with 4 points for a win and one point for each end won.

The Winners were Marj Moore, Bob Bougoure and Charmaine Macleod with 21 points, and the runners up
were June Olsson and Ray Maclaren with 19 points.

Blustery westerly winds hit the region on Thursday of last week, and Thursday Triples were down in numbers.

However, the 18 players who braved the conditions turned in some good matches.

Last Sunday the Kingaroy Ladies Bowls club played host to the Men Bowlers for Fathers Day.

On arrival, a small gift was handed to each father by Women’s Bowl President Di Reed.

They then went head to head in 31 ends of Two-Bowl Triples.

All games were very tightly fought out and the Selectors would have been proud.

In Wednesday’s Triples, a score of note here was Des Richards, June Olsson and Ray Maclaren who drew with Bess Thorp, Brigitte Kung and Col Kratzman 15-15.

Triples on Thursday were popular, too.

Scoring was four points for the win and one point for each end won.

Winners on 17 points were Bob Bougoure, B. Hammond and Malcolm Macleod who defeated Fred Keding, Felipe Munoz and Col Kratzman 32-19.

Greg Pogson did it again by topping the scoreboard for the Scroungers with a whopping 69 points. Next best were Fisher on 31, and Lew Saunders on 26.

Kilcoy News:

Last Saturday saw another game of the Men’s B Singles.

In was a very tight game, and Kelly Charters ultimately defeated Lester Bechly.

On Monday, a Kilcoy team played in the One Day Fours at Glass House.

The team comprised Val Wells, Fay Vicary, Kathy Hill and Pauline Lawson.

Kilcoy executive Margaret Worrall was in the CDLBA team, which was runner-up on the day.

On Tuesday, in the Star of the Green competition, Jeff Welden defeated Sharon Walker 6-4. He plays Noel Lanes next week.

Wednesday was Jackpot Day, and the honours went to Mary Jane, Grahame Derryman, Dennis Thomsen and Jeff Welden who defeated Fay Vicary, Phyl Coffee, Ernie Herbert and Noel Lanes 25-9.
