There will soon be a bunch of new faces around South Burnett fire stations when a group of auxiliary recruits graduate from their training.

The dozen recruits have been undergoing pre-operational training and are expected to finish in a fortnight.

Kingaroy Station Officer Bruce Groer said 10 of the recruits came from the South Burnett – from Yarraman to Murgon – while one was from Caloundra, and one from Bundaberg.

Every fortnight for the past few weekends they have undergone training at a number of different locations around the region to expose them to a range of different situations they may encounter in the future.

They will do a total of seven weekends before they go operational.

The trainees inspect the site of Sunday morning’s fire in Kingaroy and are shown how the firefighters tackled the blaze
