Smoke and flames near houses on the the Booie-Crawford Road at Kingaroy

Eight fire crews were called to a large grass fire on the northern outskirts of Kingaroy on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called just after noon to the fire which was burning in a 2ha paddock behind houses on Booie-Crawford Road.

A pall of smoke from the fire hung over Kingaroy.

Fire crews worked to surround the fire and then conducted back-burning.

The blaze, which was whipped up by a strong wind, was extinguished by 2:00pm.

Two crews remained on scene to ensure the area remained safe.
