The scoreboard at the end of the Saints v Swans game played in Kingaroy in July … fans will be hoping that the score looks something like this at the end of Saturday’s Grand Final

September 7, 2015

The South Burnett Saints have earned their spot in the AFL Grand Final after downing Highfields in the sudden-death Preliminary Final played in Toowoomba on Saturday.

Highfields was the only team to defeat the Saints during the regular rounds of this year’s competition, spoiling their unbeaten record in the very last round.

So the South Burnett were determined not to let this game get away from them.

The Saints had a strong second and third quarter and managed to withstand a Highsfields’ fightback in the last.

At half-time, South Burnett led 9.7 (61) to 4.2 (26); the full-time score was 12.12 (84) to 9.6 (60).

The Division 2 Grand Final of the Darling Downs AFL competition, between the South Burnett and Dalby, will be played on Saturday, September 12, at Heritage Oval in North Toowoomba.

The South Burnett team will be keen to erase memories of last year’s Grand Final loss to Cougars when they take to the field.

The Saints and Swans have played each other three times recently, with the South Burnett winning one of the encounters easily, just scraping home in another and losing the third.

The Grand Final is scheduled to kick off at 12:45pm at Heritage Oval, in Stuart Street, Toowoomba.
