Well-known Toowoomba TV and radio broadcaster and race-caller Pat O’Shea, 64, has died in hospital after a short illness.
O’Shea was a familiar face for South Burnett residents from his 34 years of sports reporting on regional TV.
He was also a Life Member of the Toowoomba Rugby League and his final night calling races was at Clifford Park on August 22
O’Shea underwent bowel cancer surgery in a Toowoomba hospital last Monday.
Following the operation he was placed on a breathing machine.
A statement released by his family said the difficult decision was made to turn off his life support on Saturday.
He is survived by his wife Cecile, son James, daughters Kate and Karen and three grand-children.
What a tragic loss. He was a much-loved announcer and supporter of sports in the community who will be sadly missed. My condolences go to his family.
