A 73-year-old Kingaroy man has been airlifted to Nambour Hospital with suspected internal injuries after a crash on the Bunya Highway just north of Memerambi.

The incident occurred just before 9:30am on Friday.

Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, from Kingaroy police, said the man was the sole occupant of the Toyota sedan.

Police investigations into the cause are continuing but at this stage it appears the car negotiated a bend in the highway before heading onto the wrong side of the road, spinning around and flipping. It ended up on its roof.

Snr Sgt Frank said the vehicle would be inspected to see if a mechanical failure led to the crash.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Kingaroy Hospital and then airlifted by the RACQ CareFlight helicopter.

Police, ambulance and QFES attended the scene.
