Tragedy has struck well-known country jockey Billie-Rose Derbyshire.

Billie-Rose, who is a familiar sight on South Burnett race tracks, put on a brave face when she was racing at Kilcoy on Sunday.

Few people at the track realised her partner, Adrian Robertson, 24, had been killed in a single-vehicle accident near Kilkivan just hours earlier.

The crash occurred on the Wide Bay Highway at Oakview, about 400m west of the Schollick Road intersection.

Police believe the vehicle was travelling towards Kilkivan when it left the road and hit a tree.

Emergency services were notified about 3:00am.

Adrian died at the scene.

A 23-year-old woman – whose name has not been released – was taken to Gympie Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Billie-Rose had four rides booked at Kilcoy, and she finished with a 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th.
