Dalby Swans were determined to make up for the loss against the South Burnett a fortnight ago when the two AFL teams met again on Saturday, this time on Dalby’s home ground.
In Round 11, the Saints defeated Dalby by 48 points in Kingaroy, and led at every change.
This time around, it was a much closer and only a determined effort in the last quarter brought the points home for the South Burnett to keep their undefeated status this season intact.
The Swans were coming off a one-point loss to Chinchilla last weekend while the Saints had a bye.
At the end of the first quarter, Dalby had a comfortable lead 3.3 (21) to 1.2 (8).
At half-time, Saints had sliced the margin but were still behind 4.5 (29) to 3.4 (22).
By the end of third-quarter the ladder leaders were level-pegging with eight goals apiece after a tough grind. The Swans were just a feather ahead 8.6 (54) to 8.4 (52).
But the South Burnett side put the pedal down in the last quarter, kicking four goals to one and taking the lead at the important part of the game.
The final margin was three goals, 12.9 (81) to 9.9 (63).
South Burnett goals were kicked by Ty Snow (6), Carl Stevenson (3), Bryce Commerford (2) and Brad Pressnell.

In U16s, Dalby proved too strong, coming out on top 14.15 (99) to 4.8 (32).
Saints’ goals were kicked by Keegan Wright (2), Matt Patroni and Shaun Pukallus.
The Saints women were also given a tough time on the road: Swans 33.17 (215) to 2.0 (12). South Burnett goals were by Kayla Smith and Marika Burrows.

This weekend is the South Burnett Saints’ last home game.
Games will start at 11:00am on Sunday (August 2) at Lyle Vidler Oval on the “Heritage Day” with the U16s, followed by the men’s game at 12:40pm.
The teams will be playing in a new “special edition” heritage tricolor strip to recognise the former Kingaroy Bulldogs and Jets.
The Saints’ women’s team is scheduled to play at Warwick.
