Police involved in Wednesday’s arrest of two men in Kingaroy have been praised by the officer-in-charge of Gladstone CIB.
Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey, speaking to the media in Gladstone this morning, said the two men have each been charged with 65 counts of break-and-enter.
“It was outstanding work, not only by detectives from Biloela and south-east Queensland but also our Forensic Services persons and our Scenes of Crime officers from Gladstone,” he said.
Det Snr Sgt Peachey said a joint effort, “Operation North Dust”, had resulted in yesterday’s arrests.
He said police would be alleging the pair, aged 36 and 37, had been involved in break-ins in 13 towns over two years.
He alleged the total value of the property involved – cash, cigarettes and other items – exceeded $130,000.
Det Snr Sgt Peachey said property located in Kingaroy on Wednesday included clothing and a large amount of cigarettes which police would allege came from break-ins throughout south-east and central Queensland.
He alleged knives and crossbows were also seized by police.
Det Snr Sgt Peachey said the towns affected were Crows Nest, Gin Gin, Imbil, Inglewood, Miriam Vale, Monto, Moura, Surat, Tara, Texas, Theodore, Toogoolawah and Wowan.
Det Snr Sgt Peachey said the investigation had been “massive” especially as the lead agency was the three-man Biloela CIB
“It speaks volumes for them as well as our Forensic Services (in Gladstone),” he said.
