The Bloomin’ Beautiful Blackbutt Festival opened a Festival office in the front of the Blackbutt Memorial Hall today.
For the next few months, visitors can drop into the new office any Monday to Thursday between 9:00am and noon to collect information about this year’s Festival, book tickets, buy merchandise, register a stall or lodge competition entries … or simply have a cuppa and a chat.
“The festival has grown from humble beginnings in 2008,” Festival event co-ordinator John Atkins said.
“But with all we have planned for 2015, the Festival committee felt we needed a physical presence in Blackbutt that would allow for a more ‘face to face’ approach.”
The new Festival office has allowed John to set up computers, communications and office storage in the Hall.
He said managing and coordinating such a large event from a kitchen table or the home and work offices of volunteer committee members offered many challenges that could be fixed by having an office in Blackbutt’s main street
This week the Festival committee also completed construction of a new 6×6 metre storage shed at the Blackbutt Show Grounds, thanks to assistance from the Blackbutt Agricultural Show Society.
The $13,000 building was paid for by a grant, and the Show Society donated the location next to its poultry pavillion.
The new shed will allow the Festival to store all its tables, marquees and other infrastructure securely from one year to the next.
“Now we can return our committee members’ sheds, car ports and garages to their owners,” John said.
John can be contacted at the Festival office on 0408-010-932 or by email.
