The St Mary’s girls take on Gilroy Santa Maria College at the  2015 QISSN Carnival

St Mary’s Catholic College’s netball team is competing in the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Netball (QISSN) competition in Brisbane during the first week of the school holidays.

QISSN is an annual netball carnival held mid-year which attracts many of Queensland’s finest independent secondary school netball teams.

Principal Michael Nayler said the St Mary’s community were very proud of their girls, as the team is the youngest in the competition. St Mary’s is also one of the two smallest schools in the competition.

St Mary’s Catholic College has been part of the QISSN completion since it began.

The carnival’s popularity means the number of participating teams is now capped at 48.

The 2015 QISSN Carnival is being held at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre and is hosted by Carmel College, Thornlands.

The St Mary’s team have been training for the QISSN competition under their coach Alyssa Thomas since the start of the year.

Throughout the year, the team’s players and parents have held many fundraising events, supported by local South Burnett businesses, to raise the money needed to compete in this competition.

The College was particularly grateful to its P&F and Struddy’s Sports Store for their invaluable support.

The team members were presented with their jerseys and travelling kits at a special College assembly during the last week of term.

College’s Sports Co-ordinator Ellen Inwood said she was sure that the girls’ training, team spirit and hard work would see them perform well against against the many larger schools.

The whole Saint Mary’s community wishes the team all the best for the competition ahead.
