It is looking more and more likely that NBNCo’s Tingoora tower will be built on the original proposed site south of the town, rather than at the controversial Swartz’s Road location.

Local residents had expressed concerns the Swartz’s Road site north of the town would reduce the visual amenity of Tingoora and lower property values.

Some were also concerned it might expose residents – particularly children – to an unacceptable risk from radiation, despite assurances the tower was expected to emit just 0.57 per cent of World Health Organisation standards for radiation.

The NBNCo tower was originally to be located in a forest area south of Tingoora, but when the owners of that land went into receivership, the project stalled.

NBNCo then began looking for a new site, and the Swartz’s Road location was chosen.

However, the original block was taken up by a new owner in February.

Cr Ros Heit said today it was looking positive the tower would now be erected on the original forest block although some final details were yet to be concluded.

The Tingoora tower will form part of a network of wireless broadband towers NBNCo has been erecting in the region over the past two years.

Towers of similar height are already operating in other parts of the South Burnett.
