Men’s Fours Champions from clubs throughout the Burnett rolled up at Yarraman on the weekend to try for the title of District Champions.
The honour for 2015 goes to the Wondai club, who won through three very tough rounds to clinch the flag.
On Saturday they defeated Kingaroy 19-17 in the quarter-final, and Binjour by a similar margin in the semi-final.
And in a thriller final on Sunday, they defeated Murgon 20-16.
Sunday’s match started late because of a heavy dew on the green.
Wondai won the toss but were slow away, down five-nil after four ends.
But they worked out the “grass” and quickly caught up to make a real match of it from there.
There were plenty of touchers on the green and a lot of “ooohs” and “aaahs” from the gallery.
The scoreboard showed 13-all at 13 ends; then 14-all at 15 ends; and then 16-15 at 17 ends.
Some very tight ends almost needed a micrometer to gain a decision.
Wondai really applied the pressure from there, and despite some solid drives by Murgon skip Aaron Jones Wondai took the Final 20-16.
District Reps Geoff Gees, Glen Yeates and Alex Barsby were there to watch the Final result and to announce the draw for further District contests; the Men’s Pairs at Wondai on 27-28 June and the Men’s Singles at Yarraman on July 4.
The draw for the Men’s Pairs:
- Nanango, bye
- Binjour v Murgon
- Wondai v Kingaroy
- Gayndah, bye

The match was sponsored by club members Danny Holligan and Richie Patterson.

- Third: Fred Keding, Barry O’Brien and Errol Dionysius – margin 8
On Sunday, 12 teams contested the ever popular Jackpot Pairs 2 bowl competition in near perfect conditions.
Each team played two eighteen end games.
The overall winners were determined by the amount of games won plus the combined margins.
While there was a number of closely fought games there were only two teams who managed 2 wins
- Winners: Alan Irwin and Ray MacLaren – 2 wins + 16 margin
- Runners Up: Dave Clapperton and Alan Rogerson – 2 wins + 7 margin
There were no Jackpot winners.

Yarraman News
It was raining all day last Wednesday so there was no play.
Instead, the Ladies Trophy Day has been postponed to this week.
But the Scroungers Jackpot on Friday is proving popular, and three trophies were allocated.
Club President Neil Johnston claimed the major with 37 points.
Next best was Arthur Smith with 30, closely followed by George Wolski on 29.
The jackpot was not won.
Good stuff Jim, just one correction to the Wondai pic, it’s Brad Cecil, not Brendan, could have been worse, could have had Brenda … Wondai Dingoes rule #1
Thank you, Pete! Now fixed.
