It was a long trip home for South Burnett Saints’ women’s and U16s AFL teams on Saturday after they came up against competition leaders Souths Bombers in their respective games at Toowoomba.

In the women’s match, Souths defeated the South Burnett 25.21 (171) to 1.1 (7).

Natalie Fenton scored the Saints’ sole goal.

The U16s also faced a massive task against Souths but fared better, especially in the second half.

The Bombers launched strongly and were leading by eight goals to one at half-time, 9.7 (61) to 1.2 (8).

But the young Saints didn’t give up in attack or defence.

Both sides put on two goals in the third quarter and the ratio was 3:2 in the last.

At the full-time whistle, South Burnett was behind 5.6 (36) to 15.15 (105), with the game having got away from them in the first half.

South Burnett goals were kicked by Matt Patroni, Trent Riddell  Shaun Pukallus, Taj Jones and Keegan Wright.

The Saints’ senior men’s team had a bye.

  • Men – South Burnett v University at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy, at 2:30pm (Saturday)
  • Women – bye
  • U16s – bye
