A Carer Education Support Day is held every month at Orana for family or friend carers of a person with dementia or short-term memory loss.

The group, which began in March, is co-hosted by Orana Lutheran Community Care, SB Care, St Mary’s Centacare and the Dementia Advisory Support Service.

It meets to discuss all aspects of dementia and to share information.

Morning tea is provided.

Carers are invited to bring along the person they are looking after so they can see Orana, get to meet the staff and see for themselves the activities, in a calm, non-confronting atmosphere.

Respite care could also be possible through service providers.

At some Support Days, guest speakers are invited. At other times, participants discuss challenges with the whole group sharing their combined knowledge.

The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 10:00am to noon.

RSVP (for catering purposes) to Dementia Adviser Dorothy R. Ross on (07) 4191-3030.
