Kingaroy nursing student Cassandra Noonan has won a $1000 bursary through the National Council of Women of Queensland (NCWQ).
Cassy is a familiar sight on local soccer fields and in 2014 organised fundraising to allow a group of Central Queensland Uni nursing students to carry out a health camp in a Nepalese village.
The NCWQ works to empower women and promote equal status for women. It is not-for-profit, non-party political and non-sectarian.
in 2015, it handed out 22 bursaries, some of which were linked to specific geographic areas.
Cassy was awarded the “Wayne Kratzmann Award”.
Applicants had to be:
- A female resident of the South Burnett Regional Council area
- Enrolled in a full-time, part-time or distance education course – either university or TAFE , to further develop their skills
- Able to demonstrate contribution to the local community, eg. through a sports group, school, church, service club, CWA etc
- An Australian citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia
