The Nanango Cultural Centre was abuzz with excitement last Saturday morning.

The occasion was the Heritage Nanango Funfest Committee’s Super Cent Auction, a fundraiser for the Nanango Mardi Gras.

This year the Mardi Gras will be moving from its traditional October timeslot to New Years Eve.

The Mardi Gras committee are planning a giant, family friendly New Years Eve community celebration at Nanango’s Showgrounds, complete with fireworks and all the fun of the fair.

The weekend’s cent auction was the first of several fundraisers the group plan to hold this year.

On Saturday morning, the Cultural Centre’s doors opened promptly at 9:00am to let in the crowd, who were eager to inspect the many goods on offer.

And from 9:30am onwards, compere Cr Barry Green pushed the items through until the auction wrapped up with morning tea.

In all, the Super Cent Auction raised $1093 towards the New Years Eve celebrations, which Cr Green described as “a very good morning’s work.”

The committee’s next fundraiser will be a Casino Night at the Nanango Cultural Centre on Saturday, August 1.
