The Burrandowan Picnic Race Club will be holding its 93rd annual race meeting at the Burrandowan Racecourse 66km west of Kingaroy this Saturday, May 9.

For more than nine decades, crowds have been gathering at Burrandowan on the second Saturday in May to take in the atmosphere of a true bush picnic race meeting.

The race itself generates funds for worthy causes – this year it’s CareFlight – and many food and drink outlets are run by local service clubs to assist their own community projects.

A shuttle bus will be running from Kingaroy and overnight camping is available at the track.

The day starts with clay target shooting at 9:00am.

Racing begins at 12:30pm and there’s a bumper seven-race card as well as a keenly contested Fashions of the Field competition.

After the racing, pit-fired barbecues will run into the night with a fully licensed bar (no BYO) and live music from Kerry Kennedy and Double Barrel.

Police have urged racegoers to Burrandowan to have fun but to remember they will be out on the roads, so don’t drink and drive.

“Morning after” revellers will be able to check their blood alcohol concentration at the track on Sunday morning before they get into their cars to drive home.
