Federal LNP Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott tends to get “swept up”, it seems, by all the excitement surrounding royal births.
Mr Scott said today he was delighted by the news the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had welcomed a baby daughter on Saturday.
“I, like many, was swept up in the excitement of the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s daughter,” Mr Scott said.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stand as a great example for the monarchy and I’m sure many in the Maranoa were also delighted by the Princess’s arrival.
“A baby’s birth is a wonderful moment for any family and we share in this young family’s joy.”
Mr Scott was also “swept up” by the excitement of the arrival of Prince George back in 2013, also praising the royal couple then as being a great example.
As Mr Scott has emphasised repeatedly, he believes the monarchy is very important to the people of the Maranoa.
When Australians were asked to vote in 1999 in a constitutional referendum on whether Australia should be a republic, Maranoa led the charge to make sure the Queen remained head of State.
“More than 75 per cent of voters in the Maranoa electorate voted no to a republic,” Mr Scott said in 2013 and repeated today.
“In fact, the Maranoa had the highest recorded ‘no’ vote of any constituency in Australia.”
