It was a big day of racing at the Kingaroy Showground on Saturday with the Junior Speedway bikes buzzing around in the afternoon, followed by the growls of the big V8s later in the night.

Lucas Oil Kingaroy Speedway
Australian Super Sedan champion Mathew Pascoe didn’t win any of the heats but showed his class to come from fifth on the grid and take out the main feature race at the Lucas Oil Kingaroy Speedway on Saturday night.
The Ipswich driver also set the fastest time in the 40-lap race at 15.543 sec.
Rockhampton’s Matt Williams and Roma’s Jon Taylor started from the front row in the main feature. Williams leapt into the lead while Taylor quickly lost ground.
By Lap 13, Pascoe had moved up to third position and he grabbed the top spot on Lap 24. A battle then ensued between him and Williams as they swapped places.
By Lap 35, Pascoe had opened out a commanding gap while Brisbane’s Jason Campbell had overtaken Williams – the finishing order at the chequered flag.
Kingaroy driver David Musch was in 11th.
The fastest lap in Super Sedans on the night went to Rockhampton driver Craig Torr who clocked 14.838 in Heat 2, just 0.226 slower than the track record.

Gympie driver Allen Nottage won the 20 lap Street Stock “Switch and Go” feature race, ie. 10 laps one way and 10 laps the other way.
Nottage won two of the earlier heats and started from the front row in the feature but his lead was not unchallenged with Maryborough’s Josh Arthur, West Australian driver Peter Thompson and South Burnett drivers Jarred Ash and Nathan Barbeler putting in strong performances.
The finishing podium was Nottage, Barbeler and Thompson.

Gympie driver Andrew Corbet knocked 0.222 seconds off the old lap record for Production Sedans on his way to winning the 15-lap A Main feature race.
Earlier in the night, the proddies had been slipping and sliding on their street tyres, with several 360 spins and South Burnett driver TJ Horne hitting the wall at one point.
In the feature, Corbet came in ahead of Neil Keldoulis (Gympie) and Josh Harm (South Burnett).
Toowoomba driver Tim Smith won two earlier heats but had no luck in the main.

The future of speedway racing appears to be in good hands with a strong display in the Junior Sedans.
Favourite – and Queensland Junior Sedan title holder – Matty Smith came in ahead of Joel Berkley and Ardie Jonic in the 15-lap A Main.
Earlier this year Jonic came first in the South Burnett Junior Nationals raced at Kingaroy but Saturday night belonged to Smith.
He recorded the fastest lap time in each of the heats as well as the feature race, and his fastest time was just 0.047 sec outside the track record.

The next South Burnett Speedway meeting will be the always-popular Kingaroy Show Meeting (May 2).
Racing will include the Queensland Wingless Sprint Title, the “Kingaroy Show Shootout” for Modified Sedans plus Street Stocks, Junior Sedans and Late Models (Thunder Series).

Kingaroy Bees Race Day
The debut race meeting for the Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club – which was run before the Kingaroy Speedway – has been hailed a great success.
A demonstration was put on by the tiny PeeWee riders aboard their 50cc machines before the older riders took to the track.
Kingaroy racer Cordell Rogerson did well in the heats of the 125cc class but unfortunately for local fans was pipped in the final by Townsville racer Jedd List.
List also competed in the 250/350cc class, in which he came second. The winner in this category was Bundaberg’s Brandon Coglan.
As it was the first official meeting, track records were set in each class:
- 125cc – 45.89 sec
- 250cc – 44.31 sec
The next event for the Kingaroy Bees is a “Come and Try Day” which will be held next Sunday (April 19) from 9:00am to noon.
The next race day will be Saturday, May 2 (Kingaroy Show).
