In Round 1, played on March 28, the Saints and the Demons battled for three quarters before the South Burnett finally got the upper hand in the last quarter.

At the end of Round 1, the Saints led by the narrowest of margins, 2.2 (14) to 2.1 (13).

However, Lockyer Valley went into the half-time break four points ahead.

By the end of the third quarter, South Burnett were back in the lead 7.8 (50) to 5.6 (36) which blew out to 10.11 (71) t0 6.8 (44) at the full-time siren with strong Saints’ defence limiting the Demons to just one goal.

Saints’ goal kickers were Bryce Commerford (3), Dylan Bowater, Kyall Shepherd, Brad Edwards, Joshua Miller, Brad Pressnell, Adam Bowater and Braeden Snow.

In Round 1 of the Women’s competition, also played on March 28 at Cahill Park, the South Burnett Saints demolished the Lockyer Valley Demons 12.7 (79) to 1.5 (11).

South Burnett kept the Demons scoreless through the first three quarters, letting in just one goal in the last quarter.

Saints’ goal kickers were Celina Blanch (3), Emily Ewing (3), Jessica Langton (2), Natalie Fenton, Kathy Schick, Ashleigh Irvine and Bonny Heit.

Unfortunately, Celina’s goal kicking career has come to a halt for a while.  She ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee during the match and underwent a full knee reconstruction last week.

The Round 2 game against Coolaroo will kick off at 3:50pm on Saturday at Gold Park in Gold Street, Toowoomba.
