There will be two new features at this year’s Burrandowan Picnic Races –  a High Tea served in the historic hall and pre-ordered lunch hampers.

Club secretary Carolyn Stone said the committee always welcomed feedback and people had asked for something a little more upmarket on race day.

“We wanted to offer something for groups of friends to enjoy together, so the High Tea was born, using our favourite china, with beautiful sweet and savoury items,” Mrs Stone said.

“The luncheon hampers are for those who find their days busier and would love to sit and enjoy a picnic-style lunch without having to do all the preparation.

“We make it easy, as you will pick up your hampers for two or four people, complete with a cutlery, and just enjoy!

Carolyn said both the High Tea and hampers must be booked before race day.

Cost is $20 per person for the High Tea. The hampers are $35 ( two-person)  or $70 (four-person).

Orders can be emailed to the Burrandowan Races committee

Carolyn said the voluntary committee was in full swing preparing the grounds and ensuring everything would look fabulous on the day.

She said all the usual attractions – Fashions on the Field, a five-race program, clay target shooting, pit fired barbecues and live music – would be happening as well.

“We have Kerry Kennedy and Double Barrel playing into the night, and the Kingaroy State High School Band will again entertain after the last race.”

Burrandowan Races are on Saturday, May 9.
