Kingaroy Police were forced to taser a man with suspected mental health issues after he allegedly began threatening ambulance personnel who were trying to help him on Sunday evening.
Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said police were called to the man’s home in Wattle Camp about 6:30pm.
Police had previously been alerted by concerned people that the 37-year-old man’s behaviour was becoming erratic.
Snr Sgt Frank said that when officers arrived, ambulance staff were trying to assess the man, however he became “aggressive and violent”, armed himself with a chair and started making threats and swinging it around.
The man then allegedly started moving towards the kitchen.
Snr Sgt Frank said police feared he may take a weapon from the kitchen and they made the decision to subdue him.
“They deployed the taser and it had an immediate effect. The ambulance crew was already there and attended to him straight away,” Snr Sgt Frank said.
“When he was subdued he was transported to Kingaroy Hospital for assessment. The taser had no lasting effect on him.”
