Many of the pre-season rugby league games pencilled in at Cherbourg on Saturday didn’t go ahead, disappointing local footy fans and the NITV crew which had come along to film the action.
However, the TV crew did get the chance to film an enthusiastic U18s game between Murgon (plus a couple of Red Ants) and Cherbourg.
In the end, the Hornets proved too strong, defeating Murgon 36-22 – but the last six points for Cherbourg were scored right on the final hooter.
For Cherbourg, Ralph Gyemore and Errol Simpson both scored two tries, with sole tries to Peter Langton, Everyn Fisher and Barry Tapau; goals were kicked by Ralph Gyemore, Bowman Murray, Barry Tapau and Trevor Davidson.
For Murgon, Elwyn Fewquandie continued his recent good form, scoring two tries and two conversions; Karl Berlin and Steven Watcho each scored one try and William Langton kicked one goal.
