Gordonbrook Dam – the original source of Kingaroy’s water supply – will be used again because of a pumping station failure on the Boondooma-Tarong pipeline

March 27, 2015

The quality of Kingaroy’s water supply will drop noticeably within the next few days.

The South Burnett Regional Council was notified this afternoon by SunWater of a failure at one of the pumping stations along the Boondooma–Tarong pipeline that is currently supplying water for Kingaroy.

As a result, Council will be changing the raw water source for Kingaroy’s town water supply from Boondooma Dam to Gordonbrook Dam until further notice.

This may result in changes to the water quality over the weekend, the Council said – primarily the taste and odour.

However, the town water will continue to be safe for human consumption.

To assist with maintaining the quality of the treated water, residents of Kingaroy have been asked to continue to conserve water by adhering to the Level 2 water restrictions that are currently in place.

Details of the days and times allowable for external water use are available at Council’s website

Update Monday, March 30: The SBRC advised this morning that Sunwater have completed repairs to the pipeline pumping station which failed on Friday, and the Council is now in the process of changing the raw water source back to Boondooma Dam supply.

The quality of Kingaroy water is expected to improve over the next few days as water is pumped into reservoirs and distributed through the town.
