A portable crane has been used to right to truck and clear the highway.  The dead pigs have been removed by dump trucks.

Earlier today:

Traffic flow on the Bunya Highway near Porters Gap is still down to one lane after a pig truck heading into Swickers in Kingaroy rolled about 8:00am today.

Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, from Kingaroy Police, said it appeared the driver was moving over to the side of the road for safety reasons when the vehicle lost control and tipped onto its side.

The truck was laden with more than 200 pigs.

The driver escaped physical injury but about 70 pigs either died in the crash or had to be euthanased because of severe injuries.

Some were trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed.

Emergency services personnel, Swickers staff and a vet attended the scene.

The truck had been travelling from the Dalby area.

Pigs that survived the incident, which occurred on the Bell side of Porters Gap, have been corralled into makeshift pens on the side of the road.
