The twice-yearly gathering of musical folk at the Maidenwell Pub always attracts a loyal bunch of regulars, and they were back in force at the weekend.

From Friday night to Sunday afternoon, there was music erupting in informal groups inside the pub as well as on the verandahs outside.

There were also more formal performances in the dining room.

The Maidenwell Folk Gathering is a great opportunity for friends to get together and “jam”, and it also provides an opportunity for groups to introduce their CDs to their fellow musicians.

At last weekend’s event three CDs were launched by various musicians, all eager to get feedback from their friends.

The next Maidenwell Folk Gathering has been pencilled in for September this year – with a date yet to be confirmed.

John Hockings, Graham “Bop” Bell, and Ross Roache, from Brisbane, were enjoying playing together on the Maidenwell Hotel’s back verandah

Kim Downs and Liz Hall-Downs, from Greenbank, launched their 14-track alternative country CD “Homeward Dove”

Lynnsay Fryer, from Sandy Creek Station near Leyburn, and his double bass were jamming on the back verandah

Shawn Riley, from Brisbane, used the Folk Gathering to launch his new CD, “Dance Like The Folk Do”, 14 sets of Irish / English tunes

Sadie Gwynn Jones and David J. Penman (“Sadie & Jay”), from Brisbane, launched their 10-track CD of folk / blues songs, “Curious”
Sharron Coughlan, Maree Codd and Betty Hamber, all from Nanango, didn’t have long to wait on Friday night before the music started on the Maidenwell Hotel’s verandah
