A sudden cloudburst sent diners scurrying – entree plate in hand – at Friday night’s Dinner Under The Stars in Kingaroy.
South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann joked that it had rained nowhere else but Memorial Park as the 102 guests sheltered in the giant wine tent.
But the rain, which cleared up as quickly as it started, didn’t stop the launch party for tomorrow’s Wine and Food in the Park Festival from being a roaring success – although whoever has to clean up the drenched tablecloths and chair decorations may disagree!
Initially, the crowd mingled and chatted under the stars before taking up their seats at the 11 large tables which had been placed under the trees in the park.
However, just after the salmon entree was served, the rain came and the diners quickly headed to the tables which had been placed in the giant wine tent ahead of Saturday’s festival.
The bar also moved … and the rest of the night went ahead smoothly with chef Jimmy Stephen preparing a three-course feast for the lucky customers who had managed to secure tickets to the booked-out event.
