Former Kingaroy State High School principal Alan Whitmee died in Brisbane on Wednesday.
Mr Whitmee served as principal at the school for 17 years and maintained a close contact with the local community long after he left.
His replacement was Mr David Ballin, who only officially handed over the reins at the start of this year after 25 years at the school.
Mr Whitmee’s service is remembered every year at the Kingaroy State High School awards night with the presentation of the Alan Whitmee Student Council Award.
Mr Whitmee died on his 85th birthday.
