Aidan Raymont and Peter Gray battle it out during a one-on-one “pole shuffle” heat in the Modified Sedans

March 1, 2015

It was another big night at the Kingaroy Speedway on Saturday … with yet another lap record being set in some blisteringly fast racing.

It was the turn of the Sprintcars to be in the spotlight, with racers competing for the Peanut Crown 3000.

Bryan Mann set a new lap record for a Sprintcar – in fact any car – at Kingaroy (11.977 seconds), smashing David Muir’s old record of 12.5 seconds.

Mann finished third in the Sprintcar feature, behind Andrew Scheuerle who had a narrow victory Brodie Tulloch.

The 410cid winged monsters were accompanied on the racing program by their smaller relatives, Formula 500s and Wingless Sprints, as well as the ever-popular Modified Sedans.

The night started off on a spectacular note when Jaymee and Michael Budgen had a spectacular coming together in a wingless sprint heat. Fortunately, neither brother was hurt but with both vehicles in the air at one point, it set the tone for an exciting night of racing.

At the break, the pits were thrown open for spectators to wander through, take photos and collect autographs. The stands emptied when the message came over the loudspeakers as families flocked into the pit paddock.

Kingaroy driver Brett Barron finished third in the Modified Sedans feature behind Aidan Raymont – who led from the start – and Peter Gray.

In the Wingless Sprint feature, Lismore driver Robert Mazzer managed to get past Neil Howard on the final lap to take the chequered flag. Howard had led from the start and looked a certain win until the last couple of laps.

The Formula 500 feature race was won by Queensland champion Dale Shilleto.

The next race meeting scheduled at the Lucas Oil Kingaroy Speedway will be held on April 11 and will feature Production Sedans, Juniors and Street Stocks.
