Travellers can now fly to St George, Cunnamulla, Thargomindah, Charleville, Quilpie, Windorah and Birdsville from Toowoomba’s new Wellcamp (Brisbane West) airport.

Regional Express (Rex) launched the two new services on January 1:

  • Western 1 Route – Brisbane to Wellcamp to St George, Cunnamulla, Thargomindah and return; and
  • Western 2 Route – Brisbane to Wellcamp to Charleville, Quilpie, Windorah, Birdsville, Bedourie, Boulia, Mount Isa and return.

These two routes are among five regulated routes awarded to Rex by the State Government in October.

The other three routes are:

  • Gulf Route – Cairns to Normanton, Mornington Island, Burketown, Doomadgee, Mount Isa and return
  • Northern 1 Route – Townsville to Winton, Longreach and return
  • Northern 2 Route – Townsville to Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek, Mount Isa and return

“Rex is pleased to be operating two services through the new Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport, connecting regional Queensland with Toowoomba and Brisbane,” Rex general manager Warrick Lodge said.

Brisbane West Wellcamp general manager Phil Gregory said the airport was delighted to welcome Rex.

“We have been pleased with the support the local community has given the airport and it’s vital this support continues so we can provide additional routes as we gain momentum,” he said.

“The airport is an important piece of infrastructure for the community, which will have far reaching economic and social benefits for Toowoomba and beyond.”

The Rex flights join Qantaslink’s daily return flights to Sydney.

Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional airline, operating a fleet of more than 40 Saab 340 aircraft on some 1300 weekly flights to 52 destinations throughout NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Queensland.
