The Smithfield Fieldlot near Proston is the seventh largest single-site feedlot in Australia, according to a study done recently by publishers Beef Central.
Over a period of weeks, the group listed the 25 Top Lotfeeders in Australia.
In Number 1 spot was JBS Australia which in 2014 had an estimated grainfed turn off of 395,000 head, and a one-time capacity of 150,000 head.
However, this figure was from across five feedlots in Queensland and NSW, including the massive Beef City at Toowoomba.
The largest single-site feedlot on Beef Central’s list was Whyalla Beef, at Texas in Queensland, which can handle 56,000 cattle at one time and in 2014 turned out 132,000 head. It came in Number 3 spot overall.
Smithfield Fieldlot came in 13th spot overall, but 7th in single-site feedlots.
According to Beef Central, it has a one-time capacity of 18,500 cattle, and in 2014 had a turn off of 67,000 head.
In November last year, Smithfield Fieldlot won the Pat Dempsey Memorial Trophy for Woolworths’ national livestock supplier of the year.
