The head-on crash occurred near the crest of a hill on the Bunya Highway, south of Kumbia

A South Burnett man has been killed in a head-on crash on the Bunya Highway, about four kilometres south of Kumbia this morning.

The collision, which involved a truck and a 4WD, occurred about 9:30am.

The man was the driver and sole occupant of the 4WD.

The four occupants of the truck were taken to Kingaroy Hospital for medical assessment.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

EARLIER TODAY:

10.30am – Kingaroy Police have advised that the Bunya Highway between Kumbia and the Bunya Mountains turn-off is currently blocked because of a serious crash.

Two vehicles have collided head-on about four kilometres south of Kumbia.

Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Johannesen said the highway could be closed for several hours.

Council is setting up detour signs.

UPDATE 11:00am – The highway is expected to be closed until at least 1:30pm

UPDATE 11:30am – Traffic is being diverted along Hancocks Road, which is unsealed

3:30pm – Gympie Regional Council has confirmed that the Wide Bay Highway is now open at Bells Bridge.
