The Wondai Hotel and Cellar will be turning Chinese on Friday night, February 13 … but it’s all in a good cause.

The hotel will be holding a special Chinese Night to raise funds for the Wondai State School, whose library was destroyed by fire over the Christmas holidays.

Certified Chinese cookery chef Col Wiggs will be preparing a special buffet for guests featuring oriental favourites such as Honey Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, Mongolian Lamb, Lemon Chicken, Pork in Plum Sauce, Chicken and Vegetables and Peanuts with Vegetables, along with prawn crackers, steamed rice, special fried rice and a few other tasty surprises.

Six local entertainers – including Deal’N’ and Guy Davis – have also volunteered their services for the night, and the hotel will be running drink specials, too.

There’ll also be fun auctions and raffles throughout the evening.

The event is being run in conjunction with the Wondai State School and all money from ticket sales – along with a percentage of every drink purchased – will be going to the school.

Recently, school principal Ruth Miller announced that thanks to the public’s generosity the school now has more than enough books to restock its library.

What it now needs is cash to purchase missing items and incidentals to round out its offerings for students.

Wondai Hotel owner Michael Beohm said that he was “floored” with the support that he’d received from Sunpork and other food suppliers for the fundraising night.

“We’ve had so many people offer to help out that it’s very likely every cent of ticket sales will be going directly to the school,” he said.

“But we still need a few food items to round things out, so anyone who’d like to donate some supplies is very welcome to call me.”

The evening will get underway at 6:00pm.

Tickets for the Chinese Night are $25 per head and to properly plan the catering, bookings are essential.

They can be made by phoning the hotel on (07) 4168-5274, by emailing them, or in person over the counter at the hotel.
