St Mary’s Catholic College’s Parents and Friends Committee held their inaugural Family Fun day at the College last Saturday (January 31).

The Fun Day was the brainchild of parent and P&F member Suzanne Mungall, who also oversaw the organisation of the day.

The purpose was to welcome new families and give all St Mary’s families a chance to meet both each other and the College’s teaching staff.

Nearly 400 people enjoyed a fun-filled day featuring face painting, pony rides, environmental programs, a whip-cracking display and many games and activities.

Some of the most popular events on the day included:

  • Dad Rolling – Children had to roll their fathers as quickly as possible across a 10m wide grassed area
  • Mums Three-Legged Race – Mums raced over 30m joined together with their children
  • Tug-o-War – Staff and students battled out to be the ultimate tug-o-war team.

In the end, principal Michael Nayler’s “All Star” team defeated Fr Nigel Sequeira’s “All Saints” in a titanic battle in the adult division.

Throughout the day, participation in the many events was rewarded with raffle tickets and the day ended with a free sausage sizzle and the drawing of a multitude of raffle prizes.

Mr Nayler said the day was a huge success and would become a regular feature on the College’s program.

He thanked Mrs Mungall, the P&F and all the parents, staff and students who had helped to organise and run the Fun Day.
