Two more bridges will be closed temporarily in early February to allow the South Burnett Regional Council to run geotechnical tests.

The bridges are located on Weens Road at Gordonbrook and Mondure Road at Mondure.

Detours will be put in place.

For Weens Road, the detour will be via Trouts Road, Wingfields Road, Memerambi-Gordonbrook Road and Wicks Road.

For Mondure Road, the detour will be via Farrers Road and Mondure-Wheatlands Road.

A third bridge which has already been closed, on Campbells Road at Silverleaf, will also undergo the geotechnical tests.

Council said the tests would provide designers with an appreciation of how deep the bridge piles would need to be and the types of piles that should be used.

“These tests are a necessary requirement associated with the design of bridge infrastructure and will assist over the long-term in mitigating the need to load limit these existing bridges,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.

The temporary bridge closures will be in place during operating hours, most likely between 7:00am-5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Roads portfolio spokesman Cr Damien Tessmann said the detours would be in place at each site for about one week.

“Council understands these closures will have an impact on the communities in the region and apologise for any inconvenience associated with these necessary works being undertaken,” Cr Tessmann said.
