The South Burnett Senior Cultural Australia Day Award recognises an outstanding person or group who has contributed to the region’s culture.

Nanango Theatre Company's Lynda Archdall

In 2015, the nominees were:

  • Linda Archdall
    • Has appeared in at least 30 theatrical performances for the Nanango Theatre Co.
    • Directed numerous productions on top of working the door, setting up and supporting the club
    • Has been president and treasurer of the club multiple times over the years
  • Desley Collins
    • Volunteered at the Kingaroy Senior Citizens for many years
    • Compassionate and caring wife whom has taken on caring responsibilities of her husband
    • A wonderful neighbour bringing joy to others with her homemade cookies
  • South Burnett Chorale

    • Performs eight concerts annually across the region donating $2000 from funds raised to local charitable organisations
    • Performs for residents in aged care facilities and hospitals within the South Burnett
    • Invited to sing at many celebrations and community events
    • Hosted the Australian National Choral Association’s “Big Sing” in Kingaroy which attracted 185 choristers from across Queensland

Winner: South Burnett Chorale

The South Burnett Chorale was formed in 1996 with the aim of promoting the art of choral singing by demonstrating that people from all walks of life can experience the magic that is achieved by being part of a choir.

The choir members represent a variety of people including school children, unemployed, pensioners, farmers and professionals who are all brought together harmoniously to produce a co-operative effort.

The Chorale performs eight concerts across our region annually and donates $2000 from the funds raised to local charitable organisations.

As well, they also perform for people in aged care facilities and hospitals throughout the South Burnett and have been invited to sing at multiple celebrations and community events.

The South Burnett Chorale has made a noteworthy contribution to the cultural life of our region making them a worthy recipient of this award.
