Blackbutt Show Society is looking for teams to compete in the Blackbutt Farmers Challenge – a wacky afternoon of fun and games in February which will see artificial cows being milked, “pigs” pulled and tinnies cracked amongst other activities.
At the end of the day, one of the teams will be crowned the “2015 Farmers Of The Year”.
Show Society canteen convenor Cheryl Marriott said teams can be all male, all female or mixed … but they will all have to compete against each other.
Points will be awarded for each challenge and the winning team will take home $1000 ($250 per person) as well as bragging rights.
Games include riding the Buckaroo Bull (a mechanical bull), Cowcocky Milking, the Stockman’s Shootout, Ringers Ride (chucking gumboots at a target while riding a towed hay bay) and “Plough the Field, Pull the Pig, Stack The Hay, and Crack a Tinny” (much too complicated to explain!).
Nominations are $100 per team ($25 per person) and close on February 14.
Cheryl said the Show Society usually held a cattle sale as an annual fundraiser, but because of conditions a decision was made a while ago not to do so this year.
All the money raised from Farmers Challenge will go towards improving the showgrounds and facilities.
Spectators can come along for $1.
As well as the crazy capers, the Show Society will have a display of photographs in the pavilion and there will be market stalls, show bags, a post-ripping display, and face-painting and a jumping castle for the children.
The fun and games will start at 3:00pm on Saturday, February 28 (gates open 2:30pm).
The wacky challenges will run until about 8:00pm and will be followed by live music on stage, from Lodi, until midnight.
A bar will be operating all day until late.
Nomination forms are available at the Blackbutt Newsagency, the Radnor Hotel and the Yarraman Chemist or from Cheryl on 0427-036-142.
