Greg Day, from the McEuen Rural Fire brigade … presented with Australia Day Achievement award

January 22, 2015

Greg Day, from Wondai, and Paula Wardell, from Goomeri, are among nine North Coast Queensland Fire and Emergency Services personnel who were presented with Australia Day Achievement Awards today in Gympie.

Greg was recognised for his leadership, commitment and dedication with the Rural Fire Service.

Paula, an SES volunteer, was recognised for her exceptional work and outstanding commitment to the North Coast Region.

Medallions were presented to the nine recipients at a ceremony at the Gympie Civic Centre.

Acting QFES Commissioner Katarina Carroll said Australia Day Achievement Awards were reserved for the very best personnel who went above and beyond the call of duty for their communities.

“I am continually impressed by the way QFES staff and volunteers devote themselves to the emergency services,” Ms Carroll said.

“Values like mateship, loyalty and courage are at the heart of all Australians but these recipients have proven they have the capacity to stand up and act to ensure that spirit rings true in times of need, where others may falter.

“In their service, they have gone above and beyond to a point where their peers have noticed them as a stand-out and felt compelled to nominate them, deservingly, for this accolade.

“QFES would not be the world-class service it is without people like today’s award recipients.”
